Ridgewood sits directly on the Queens–Brooklyn line, and it is one of the most architecturally consistent neighborhoods in the city. Block after block of yellow-brick rowhouses went up in the early 1900s, and so many survive intact that a large part of the neighborhood is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Myrtle Avenue is the spine, with the M train running above it and shops crowded along both sides. The neighborhood was heavily German for generations and is thoroughly mixed today, which shows up in the food more than anywhere else.
